| About Hanwell Village |
Hanwell is a small village of approximately 120 houses. It is situated three miles from the centre of Banbury in Oxfordshire and is linked to the town by the Warwick Road (B4100) and the Southam Road (A423) connecting with the small village road.
The majority of the village is contained within a conservation area with two historic listed buildings on its southern boundary, St. Peter's Church and Hanwell Castle with its medieval fish ponds, together with many old houses and cottages.
Conservation Area Appraisal by Cherwell District Council, August 2007.

Latest - Proposed Ironstone Windfarm by Regeneco
Plans were submitted to Cherwell District Council in September 2011 by Regeneco for a wind monitoring mast on farmland between Hanwell and Shotteswell.
At the same time Regeneco have announced that they have proposals to build a windfarm of between 5 and 8 large turbines on this land. A windfarm of this scale would be totally out of place in this landscape and would have a devastating impact on Hanwell and other local villages.
It is vital that large numbers of villagers respond to Cherwell Planning Department, to make our strength of feeling known. For more information see Windfarm
The Hanwell Fields Development |
The Parish Council has consistently opposed the expansion of Hanwell Fields towards Hanwell in the past few years.
Plans by Persimmon to build 400 houses were the subject of a Planning Appeal Inquiry in 2007 by the Secretary of State, who ruled that the application be refused: Hanwell Fields
In 2010, Cherwell District Council published its long term planning strategy to 2026 (called the Draft Core Strategy). As part of the strategy for Banbury, the Council proposed two large new housing sites (totalling 800 houses) close to Hanwell, which could have had significant impacts on the village and its residents. However, these were eventually deleted from the final Draft and are currently not part of Cherwell’s future housing plans: Local Plan
